Oak Hill Parkway Update

Date Published: May 19, 2022

Our construction team in Oak Hill continues to make great progress building the Oak Hill Parkway. On the west end, drainage and utility infrastructure is being installed in anticipation of the new frontage roads and widening efforts. You may have noticed a traffic shift west of Circle Drive. It is important drivers pay special attention to signage and road markings and, as always, limit distractions while driving. Additionally, the construction of walls, including two approved sound walls and many retaining walls, continues near Circle Drive, RM 1826, and Convict Hill Road. Before that break, you may have noticed several of the iconic trees near US 290 and William Cannon Drive received a much-needed trim. The staff arborist says this pruning will keep the trees in good health during upcoming construction.

Improvements to US 290 at SH 71 are underway

There’s a lot happening on the Oak Hill Parkway project. Water quality protection measures were put into place along the highway in state right of way, including several miles of silt fencing, rock filter dams and erosion control logs. These protection measures assist in treating stormwater runoff and limiting sediment from leaving active construction areas. “TxDOT and Colorado River Constructors (CRC) are committed to protecting the Edwards Aquifer during construction,” said Christiana Astarita, TxDOT project manager. “Installing these water quality best management practices are a priority as we get started with major work.”

With the turn of shovels, the Texas Department of Transportation officially began construction on the Oak Hill Parkway project last Thursday. Decades in the making, the Oak Hill Parkway project will accommodate current and future growth by adding lanes for drivers traveling through Oak Hill, as well as frontage roads for local traffic. The project will also remove traffic signals on the mainlanes, construct flyovers between US 290 and SH 71, and construct bicycle and pedestrian accommodations.
